Anong wika ba ang panturo?

Mayroong dalawang bills sa Kongreso tungkol sa wikang panturo. Isa ang Gullas Bill, na Ingles ang nirerekomendang wikang panturo, at isa ang Gunigundo Bill, na nagsasabing dapat ay ang wikang kinagisnan ng estudyante ang gamitin. Nakakairita itong paulit-ulit na pagtalakay sa gagamiting wika sa pagtuturo. Simple lang naman yan. Turuan mo ang bata gamit ang wikang alam niya para maintindihan niya ang itinuturo mo. Bakit mo gagamiting panturo ang wikang Filipino o Ingles sa isang batang lumalaki sa isang komunidad na ang sinasalita niya at ng kanyang mga kasama ay Ilokano? Makakatulong ba iyon? Mas magiging kapaki-pakinabang para sa bata kung sa Ilokano mo siya tuturuan. Sa dinami-dami ng mga pag-aaral na nagsasabing mas natututo ang bata kapag wikang naiintindihan niya ang ginagamit sa pagtuturo, may nagpupumilit pa rin na Ingles ang gamitin. At itong mga nagpupumilit na Ingles ang gamitin ay hindi naman mga guro. Hindi nila alam at nakikita ang kalagayan ng mga estudyante.

Makinig na lang kasi kayo dun sa nakakaalam. Huwag na kayong makialam pa.

Ibig sabihin nangalahati na ang unang buwang ng bagong taon. Feel niyo ba ang bilis? Magtatrabaho dapat ako kaso masakit ang ulo ko dahil ang sipon ko ay hindi pa lubusang hinog. Medyo barado ang aking ilong, pero wala naman akong maisinga.

Its a new year! And for the nth time, I will start the year by blogging... from work! Since I have nothing new to write at the moment I will repost my 2008 meme from my multiply.

What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
- magpakasal
- enter into a PhD program
- go to another country to present a paper
- do a Talastasan (a lecture series of the college)

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
- I don't remember making resolutions for 2008. Pero kun meron man, pare-pareho lang naman yun at pare-pareho din lang hindi ko nagagawa nang buong taon.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
- Si ate ann, si elle na barkdada ko nung HS. Parehong di ko pa nakikita. (edit: nakita ko na si elle, pareho lang kami ngayon ng tiyan! kakaloka!)

Did anyone close to you die?
- Marami sa probinsya, mga malalayong kamag-anak daw. Papa din ni paeng =(

What countries did you visit?
- Pusan, Korea. Bakit countries lang? Ilagay ko na rin ang Ilocos Norte at Ilocos Sur, kasi first time kong pumunta dito.

What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
- Disiplina. Baby ria or baby paeng.

What date(s) from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
- April 18, 2008. Pakikipag-isang dibdib.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
- Magpakasal? Hahaha.
- Magpresent sa isang international conference in Japanese. Poster presentation lang naman ito at may 3 pa akong kasama. Pero achievement pa rin.

What was your biggest failure?
- Yung mga projects na hindi naumpisahan.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
- Madalas lang magkasipon at ubo.

What was the best thing you bought?
- Bra (eto talaga, hehehe)

- Mine? Joke. Sa sister ko, gumradweyt at pumasa ng board sa nursing.

- Eto, mine talaga.

- Kasal

- Tulog. Parang kalahating araw ako tulog.

- Sa tatlong bahay. Kapagod, pero sulit.

- Hindi pa namin nagagawang nakatayo e. Joke lang yan! Syempre wala, ano ba yan. May asawa na akong tao eh =p

- Wala naman yata.

- hindi ako naging masyadong involved sa music ngayong taon

- Marriage. Hehehe. OA na.

- Konti lang naman napanood ko ngayong taon: A very special love, Iron Man, Ploning, Batman, My only u, Wall-E...

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
- Tumugtog sa isang wedding sa Gazebo Royale. Akala ko maganda doon. Kukulitin ko pa naman sana si paeng na dun kami magpareserve. Maayos naman, pero overrated. 28 na ako. Feeling ko tanda ko na.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
- Being pregnant sana.

- Hubby

- Wala akong sinalihang mga rally pero affected ako sa lahat ng issue na umiikot kay GMA. Pechay sila!

- Nakita ko naman lahat ng gusto kong makita this year :) Pero nakakamiss ang family ko sa Japan.

Who was the best new person you met?
- Lawrence Reid. Linguists rock!

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
- Pag may itinanim, may aanihin.
- Pag maganda yung itinanim mo, maganda rin yung aanihin mo.
- Hindi dapat ma-haggard sa mga bagay-bagay, kasi may mga tutulong sa iyo para matupad iyon. Pero minsan, kailangang mo ding hayaan magwork yung iba sa pace nila at maganda din ang kalalabasan nito. Weird no?
- Kung gusto mo maganda ang maging labas ng plano mo, humingi ka ng advise sa mga tao, pero ikaw din mismo dapat at gumalaw para dito.
- Hindi lahat ng tao nakikinig sa sinasabi mo so piliin mo lang kung kanino mo sasayangin ang laway mo. hehehe.

Blogging from Korea

O di vah?! Minsan lang magblog, may halong pagmamayabang pa! Nandito po ako sa Busan, Korea sa Gimhae Airport. Pauwi na ako actually sa Pinas pero napaaga ang dating namin dito sa airport tapos nakakita pa kami ng free internet lounge kaya naman sinunggaban na namin ang pagkakataon.

Bakit ba ako nandito? Saka na lang ang kwento, kasabay ng pictures. Basta, nagpapaka-academic lang ako dito.

Sa wakas, mga litrato!

Pagkatapos ng (mahaba-haba ring ) walong taon, sa simbahan din pala talaga ang tuloy namin. Kasama namin ang aming mga pamilya, kaibigan, at mga fans na nagmamahal at sumusuporta sa aming tambalan. At halos tatlong buwan matapos ang Abril 18, nakapag-upload na rin ako ng feekchurs =). Yehey!

JAPTUBE: Japanese-inspired air video competition

JAPTUBE: A Japanese-inspired Air Video Competition

JAPTUBE is an air video competition that aims to challenge the creativity and/or “aping” abilities of Japanese language and culture enthusiasts in creating their own Japanese-inspired music videos, or in mimicking Japanese music videos. This competition is one of the events of JAP FUN: Explorasyon at Selebrasyon ng Wika at Kulturang Hapon -- the Japanese Month celebration of the Department of Linguistics, CSSP, UP Diliman, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Manila.

COMPETITION MECHANICS
1. This competition is open to all Japanese language and culture enthusiasts all-over the Greater Manila Area.
2. Entries (music videos) should run from 3 TO 5 MINUTES only, and should be in MPEG or AVI FORMATS.
3. Music videos must contain the theme JAPANESE. They should be Japanese-inspired or contain anything related to the Japanese language, Japanese culture, Japanese society, and so on.
4. Music videos may be in, but NOT LIMITED TO, the following forms:
a. A mimic of an existing Japanese music video;
b. An original music video of a Japanese song (J-pop, anime theme song, enka, etc.);
c. An original music video of a non-Japanese song, but the music video must contain something Japanese, e.g., actors are in cosplay, setting is in a Japanese restaurant, etc.

SUBMISSION OF ENTRIES
1. Music videos should be in MPEG or AVI FORMATS, burned to a CD.
2. All entries should be submitted on or before 18 JULY 2008, 5 PM, to the DEPARTMENT OF LINGUISTICS, FACULTY CENTER 2110, UP DILIMAN, QUEZON CITY.
3. Entries should be submitted together with:
a. the NAME of the ENTRY SENDER or GROUP REPRESENTATIVE,
b. the CONTACT DETAILS (mobile and landline numbers, e-mail address, mailing address) of the entry sender or group representative,
c. the AFFILIATION of the entry sender or group (school, company, or organization),
d. a list of the music video CAST AND STAFF, and
e. a ONE PARAGRAPH DESCRIPTION of the music video (in Filipino, English, or Japanese).
4. All entries will become property of the Department of Linguistics, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines Diliman.

JAPTUBE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD VOTING MECHANICS
1. All entries will be uploaded to YouTube.com on 21 JULY 2008 for public viewing.
2. Search tags for JAPTUBE entries are: , , . ,
3. Voting for the People’s Choice Award may be done through www.japfun2008.blogspot.com, every 8-10 PM of 21-24 JULY 2008.
4. The People’s Choice Award will be determined by the biggest number of votes online.
5. Announcement of winners is on 25 JULY 2008, 4 PM at the CSSP AVR (Palma Hall 207).

(1) Content 50%
a) ‘Japanese-ness’ of the music video
b) Creativity and originality of concepts and ideas
(2) Production 30%
a) Visual aesthetics (appearance of the video)
b) Cinematography (quality of the audio, lighting, camerawork)
c) Creativity and resourcefulness (in terms of props)
(3) Final Product 20%
a) Cohesiveness
b) Overall video quality

The Judges’ decision is final and unappealable.

Winners will receive trophies, cash prizes, and gift packages.
